History
Originally a parcel of land belonging to the Rancho San Pedro Spanish land grant, the area that later became Hermosa Beach used to be a vast expanse of hills and grain fields.
The land was first surveyed in 1901, with the first pier completed in 1904. In January 1907, Hermosa Beach was officially incorporated, in the process acquiring ownership of the two miles of ocean frontage that it now flaunts as its main draw for tourists and prospective residents.
